Intsia bijuga

ORIGIN

Indo Malaysia, Indonesia & Philippines.

INFO

Merbau’s colouring undergoes a change with time. After installation, it darkens to a richer orange brown. It is generally a muted colour as compared to when it is freshly milled.

APPEARANCE

After being cut, Merbau’s heartwood is a yellow-brown to orange-brown colour. It darkens to a more reddish brown with time. The graining of this wood can be interlocked, wavy, or straight. Something particular about Merbau is the occasional apparent yellow or gold flecks which gives it the intricate details.
